An effective nonqualified plan can be critical in minimizing expenses and attracting and retaining the key executives of a company.

Nonqualified plans can take various forms, but have a great deal of flexibility in that they allow a company to offer it to a select group of key employees. The company can also incorporate certain restrictions that require a key employee to remain with the company for a defined period before benefits are received.

Many companies employ these plans as it allows them to align the compensation of the key executives with that of the shareholders.
